Some physicians will recommend physical therapy prior to surgery to maximize strength, endurance and mobility, which will assist in a more speedy recovery following surgery. Post-Surgical treatment is designed to minimize pain and swelling, as well as to restore flexibility, strength and function. Some common post-surgical conditions are joint replacements, repairs of fractured bones, ligament or tendon repairs, and spinal surgeries (discectomy, laminectomy, fusions).
Possible Treatment Options
Therapy in our Hydroworx 350 or Endless Pool can speed up your overall recovery time. Typically following the surgery comes, what has been known as the, ‘painful recovery process.’ But Aquatic Therapy offers hope and pain-free rehabilitation options. It decreases swelling and discomfort allowing you to unload your body weight and move freely in the warm water.
Our land-based programs are designed specifically for each patient undergoing surgery to improve flexibility, range of motion and functional strength.
Modalities such as Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation can help to reduce pain and swelling, as well as facilitate muscle activation to increase strength.
PT Helps Paula recover from foot amputation
Paula Harris was struck by a garbage truck while in a cross walk in 2012, which resulted in a right mid-forefoot amputation.
“I have always been self-sufficient and when I lost my foot, it definitely took the wind out of my sails at first. Feelings of anxiety and I’d never walk again started to go away as soon as I began physical therapy.”
“I found a PT who was open to listening to issues I was dealing with and through encouragement and creative challenges it helped me keep my eye on the prize of walking again,” says Harris.
After months of physical therapy, Paula was able to return to driving, golf and dancing. Periodically, Paula has returned to therapy with new prostheses and new goals.
Paula's latest goal was to be able to stand up paddle!
How we've helped others relieve their pain
"Julie has done it again! First, she fixed my knees last year. Now she fixed the tingling and pains in my upper left arm. About seven months ago, I started getting tingling and pains in my left upper arm. Instead of it going away in time, the symptoms gradually got worse.
Julie came to my rescue with treatments to loosen and stretch the muscles in my shoulder and upper back, which caused the pressure on the nerves. I learned from her the importance of good posture and how to fix poor sleep habits. She came up with the right exercises for me to continue after therapy was over.
Now I don’t have the problems anymore!"

I had an auto accident in Sept. of 1992 and a second in April of 1995. I had bad back pain in my lower back ever since. Sleeping and turning while sleeping caused more pain.
Then, praise God for Moon Physical Therapy! I can turn in my sleep without pain! Yay! I have less sleepless nights. My pain levels have dropped. Range of motion is much better than it’s been in years! Thanks a bunch Julie and staff. God Bless all of you now and always.
P.S. – the turning pain was gone from my first visit. Has been gone ever since! "

"On August 1, 2009, I had a right hip replacement at Queen’s Hospital. After time, my hip and thigh would hurt and I was barely able to walk. Dr. Mark Lum recommended that I go to Moon for physical therapy...
Julie Moon, owner and physical therapist, and her staff worked on me and together with many exercises, I found some relief after six weeks. I went back for another six weeks and now I am able to walk with no pain.
The work that Julie and her staff did for me is immeasurable. If you have physical pains, I recommend going to Moon Physical Therapy for treatment without any reservation."
